Some good questions there! But I was shocked by the Starbucks comment! :)

I thought you’re loyalty was to Starbucks! My preference is also Caribou! Working for a company in Minneapolis and living in Michigan, I travel through there a lot and it’s the first and last place I visit as I go through the Minneapolis airport! LOVE Northern Lite Coolers!

Thank you Richard for another great VLOG!

  4. Sarah says:

Thanks for another great Vlog……You come off as such a good person…thats nice since
we love your music so. Sometimes one likes an entertainers work, then sees them to be a jerk, thus making it hard to enjoy their work anymore. Glad you dont disapppoint :)

  7. CC says:

I absolutely love your music, Richard. I have had you on the brain for weeks.

Cannot wait to see you again!
    Los Angeles//

    My special memory:
I moved to an airforce base at age 15. I was stuck in the middle of a cornfield basically. There was a library across the street from my house, though, which gave me something to do. They allowed people to check out music. I “checked out” your tapes and fell in love- and of course your songs became the soundtrack to my first serious experiences as a young adult, in life.
    Thank You :)

P.S. I like “Ask Richard” Very cool!
    So my question is:
What is your favorite Simon & Garfunkel song?

  8. Tony D says:

    Rich,

Just a thought…How about re-making a John Denver song as a tribute to him? Have you ever heard his song, “For You.” Below are the words. I think you would do a spectacular job with this song-it sounds like something you would write. You are one of the very few artists who is capable of doing it right. Please check it out.

    Thanks,

    -Tony

P.S. You are, and always will be, my favorite artist.

    For You by John Denver

Just to look in your eyes again, just to lay in your arms.
Just to be the first one always there for you.
Just to live in your laughter, just to sing in your heart.
Just to be every one of your dreams come true.
Just to sit by your window, just to touch in the night. Just to offer a prayer each day for you.
Just to long for your kisses, just to dream of your sighs.
Just to know that I’d give my life for you.
For you, all the rest of my life, for you, all the rest of my life, for you alone, only for you.

Just to wake up each morning, just to have you by my side.
Just to know that you’re never really far away.
Just a reason for living, just to say I adore. Just to know that you’re here in my heart to stay.
For you, all the rest of my life, for you, all the rest of my life, for you alone, only for you.
Just the words of a love song, just the beat of my heart.
Just the pledge of my life, my love, for you.

  9. Hi Richard

Thanks again for another great vlog. I was waiting so long for Part Two. It’s kinda weird that you don’t like Starbucks because everybody loves Starbucks. But not me because I absolutely hate the taste of coffee. I can’t stand it but I love the smell of coffee in the morning. I get my caffeine of the day by drinking Mountain Dew. Do you like Mountain Dew?
Are you doing any concerts in Michigan any time soon? I live in Leonard, Michigan and it’s pretty boring where I live. Most of the concert entertainment is in Detroit or Pontiac.

Have a wonderful summer and stay out of the sun!
    -Ralyssa

P.S. How hot is the weather in Chicago right now? Here in Michigan, it feels like it’s 100 degrees!
Say hi to me in your next vlog if you can, it would really mean a lot to me. Your the greatest!!! Hugs!!! :)

  10. Koobashani says:

Hi Richard, sooo good to hear from you again…
Hope that you are well…great reading the new & not so new news and I loved the 2 free downloads..can’t wait to show it off to all my friends..
I have a poster of you at my desk at work and everyone (work with some teeny boppers too..hehe) always asks me who you are…so from the 100 or so in my department, I’m pretty sure 80% now know..they have heard your songs but for some reason didn’t know the face behind the voice (except for my generation off course who were in school when you released your first few hits :)
Last Friday I got to see Bryan Adams perform in Durban, was really great, but still hoping and waiting that you would perform here as well…Durbs is not such a bad place..we’ll take care of you :) Promise!!!
Wow, just caught a glimpse of all your tours in Europe…really cool. Wish I could come to one of your concerts there :)
Till the next time….u take care and have a fab, fun, happy, smiley, week :)
Lots of love, your biggest SA fan :)

  11. Cristiana says:

Thanks for the VLOG…maybe not always the best questions from the fans, but certainly your answers are great..everyone can learn something from you, I think you’re a very wise person. I almost your age, minus a few months but continue to learn from special people like you.

I am right here waiting for the next VLOG…

    Bug hugs from Romania.

    Sorry for my poor english.

  12. Josh says:

Richard, don’t know if you’ll read this but I would like to know how you go about finding the musicians that play with you on tour. I have always fantasized about playing bass for my favorite artists but never knew how the guys up there on the stage even got a chance to be there. I would love to know so that I could try some day.

  13. Jacqueline says:

I rarely comment but I had to say I enjoyed your comments on rejection. Despite a hard work ethic, rejection can often reduce one’s self esteem and leave a person questioning one’s worth to the system. After listening to you, I realized we all have worth more than others can often see. Thanks you turned around a really bad day!

  14. Hey Richard, We saw you last time at the Freeze last time you were here, but we didn’t get to meet you you did get our flowers and we got our cd back withyour message if we get to see you on Aug 15th how can we meet you I am trying to get ticketsmoneys really tight my husband and I both lost our jobs.My husband lost a girlfriend 20 years ago and waiting here right now has a very special place in his heart does your sight have any contest to win tickets God bless Marjean nd Mike Randall

  15. Marie-Claude Lafleur says:

From Quebec city. I speak french, so be nice to me…

when I was younger, I really loved your songs (Endless summer night etc.)
The first time I eared “Whataya want from me” from Adam Lambert, I really tought it was you! It makes me feel like I was 20 years!

    I miss your songs.
    Bye,

    Marie-Claude Lafleur

  16. RJS says:

love that you’re doing this. very engaging, very entertaining. interesting to hear that singing is mainly support for your song writing. really cool.

  17. Dear Mr. Marx,

When I was in high school, I heard my first Richard Marx song. “Endless Summer Nights” and I was hooked. There aren’t words good enough to discribe your music. Please keep singing and my wife and I will keep listening.
Are there any chances to meet you? I know you are busy but It would be a great honor. Please have the best day…..

  19. Mandy says:

Hey Rich, very cool vlog, I love your vlogs anyway, thanks for always keeping in touch with us, you are a very lovely man, and an amazing artist. But sometimes I just feel like you’re still kinda upset with Brazil, I feel real bad about it, it makes me feel stupid.. The show went so great to me and you seemed to be so happy, I don’t know.. then I just thought you’d come back as quick as possible but now I’m not really sure about it. I don’t mean to bother you, just want you to know that we love you and that it wasn’t about the brazilian fans but who brought you here, the disclosure of the show was terrible, there were fans who only knew about the show at the day it was going to happen. Please, come back! It was a very great show, you don’t know much I’ve heard about you, great things, who went to the show, was delighted. One more time, don’t give up on us, I want to meet you so bad.

Hope you’re having a great time, you deserve it!
    Love,
    Mandy

    Hello Richard,

Thanks for this entertaining “Ask Richard”.
I’ve been a fan since day one.

I remember when I was about 23 years younger, when I first heard “Hold On The The Nights” on the radio..i thought…”who is this guy?”".
I went the RECORDshop (no cd in sight at the time,at least where I lived ;-) ) and ask for your debut album.
    They didn’t knew you,of course ;-) .
But they ordered the record and listened to it also and were blown away…..

It is a pretty long time ago,but i can remember it like it was yesterday..and today i have kids of my own.

I’ve heard your answer about performing somewhere and agents booking these.

But there are always more concerts in Germany and not ONE in The Netherlands…why? Ask your agent ;-)

I’ve seen you in Rotterdam in 1989 i believe playing before Stevie Nicks,Repeat Offender Tour.

I’ll probably go to see hopefully in november
in Germany.Maybe I’ll meet you sometime.

You take care of yourself and you family!
    Stay healthy!!

    Greetings,

    Martin Batenburg
    The Netherlands

Richard, I was recently laid off from my job, and the one thing that really makes me feel better is listening to your music. I’ve been a fan for over 20 years and you just keep getting better. I was also on the cruise and had a great time because of you.

    Cheryl

    Hi Richard,

Wow!! thanks for all the insite. So like Carabou coffee!! Me too! Bet you have a Kuerig coffee machine lol
It’s really nice that you not only are willing to answer fans’ questions, but you give us a glimpse into you—ie. that you never learned to swim etc. I really love reading your comments and enjoy the stories you tell at shows.

    heart-felt THANK YOU!

  25. Paula says:

    Hello Richard,

First time when I heard a song of yours, I was living in Romania, that was more then 15 years ago. Now I’m here in US still listening to your songs with the same pleasure, you’re a one of a kind singer/songwriter that will be in my heart forever. You have all my respect and gratitude and, God knows what he is doing because I will have the pleasure to see you singing live on Oct 1st in Englewood, NJ, front row when I celebrate my birthday and I couldn’t ask for more.
    Sincerely,
    Paula

  26. Nancy says:

Hey Richard. Just finished hearing your video you did in July. First off, I’m a big fan of yours. I love your music. Wish you could come to Kentucky or maybe Evansville, IND at Robert’s Stadium. Would love to hear you sing again in person. I’m glad you’re doing these video Q&A’s. Those are Great! I love your answers. Very straightforward. And I agree about all those crooks being held accountable for their actions. We as citizens have been screwed enough! Someone needs to pay! You still look Great. I hope to get one of your new CDS when it comes out. I’m sure you’ll have some great songs. And I like your website. AWESOME! Keep up the good work!

    Hi Richard,

Just wanted to say that i have just booked tickets to your london show on 18th november and my husband and I are bringing our 11 year old son along with us. He has grown up listening to your music and is rather exited that we are bringing him along (it’s his first live music experience !!)

All we have to hope for now is that we hold off selling our house !! We are emmigrating to Nova Scotia and our House in the UK is the only thing stopping us. If we do sell before November and can’t make it to the London show, we hope that you will play in Nova Scotia some day.

Your music is awsome and we think you fab.

    Best wishes

    Louise Ayre
